Getting to Villa Lux Luz

Faro Airport (FAO) is the arrival point for almost every group. It sits about 90 km east of Praia da Luz, and the drive west on the A22 takes around an hour, closer to an hour fifteen in July and August. Faro has direct summer flights from across the UK, Ireland and northern Europe, thinner in winter. Lisbon is the fallback, roughly three hours by road.

Public transport is slow: bus or train to Lagos, then a local connection into Luz, takes three to four hours with at least one change. Pre-booked private transfers are the practical choice, a minibus for 8 to 16 people or two vehicles for a full house. The villa can arrange airport transfers and car hire. November to February: highs of 16C to 19C, lows of 10C to 13C, and the wettest months. Outdoor sessions cannot be relied on, so plan indoor space. In exchange the coast is empty, rates are lowest and the villa takes flexible short stays, which is what makes winter training camps and retreats work here.

Praia da Luz beach is a sheltered arc of sand with Blue Flag water quality. Lagos, about 6 km away, has the marina, old town and provisioning. Ponta da Piedade, the sea arches south of Lagos, can be seen by boat or from the clifftop walkway. Burgau is a fishing village roughly 7 km west along the cliffs, and the coastal path east to Lagos runs around 11 km, three to four hours.

For half days, Sagres and Cabo de Sao Vicente are 25 to 30 minutes by road, the Rota Vicentina network on the Costa Vicentina offers wilder cliff walking including the Fishermen’s Trail, and Monchique and the Serra hills inland give cooler air and thermal springs.
