The Venue

Nestled at the foot of the iconic Mont Ventoux, in the heart of Provence, Journeys of Bliss is an exclusive retreat venue designed for yoga teachers, wellness facilitators and group leaders seeking a peaceful and inspiring setting for their retreats.

Set on a private estate of 9,000 m2, the property combines the charm of Provence with modern comfort, offering a serene environment where guests can slow down, reconnect and immerse themselves in nature.

The retreat centre accommodates up to 22 guests and features a spacious 100 m2 yoga shala with a beautiful parquet floor and abundant natural light, creating the perfect atmosphere for yoga, meditation, pilates, breathwork and workshops.

Accommodation

The retreat centre consists of two buildings.

Main house: 1 triple room, 3 twin rooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 toilets.

Yoga shala building: 4 twin rooms and 1 dormitory with 6 single beds. All rooms have their own private bathroom and separate toilet.

Twin beds can be converted into double beds upon request. For larger groups, an additional guest house accommodating up to 5 people is available for rent, with two bathrooms, a private garden, access to the shared swimming pool and two parking spaces.

The property also has heating, air conditioning, a hot tub, an ice bath, an indoor fireplace, a BBQ, bike rental and a meditation space. Getting to Journeys of Bliss

Journeys of Bliss is easily accessible by car, train or plane. Marseille Provence (MRS) is 115 km away, roughly one hour fifteen minutes by road, and is the best-connected airport in the region for European short-haul, so it usually gives the widest choice of arrival slots for a group landing on the same day. Nimes is closer on paper but its schedule is thin and seasonal, and Lyon Saint-Exupery is around two hours forty-five minutes.

By rail, Avignon TGV is the station to aim for, 40 km and a 40 minute drive. It takes direct TGV services from Paris Gare de Lyon in around 2 hours 40 minutes and connects to Lyon, Lille and Brussels. There is a direct bus connection from Avignon to Malaucene for approximately 5 euros, and car rental is available from both Marseille and Avignon.

For a group, the cleanest arrival plan is a single pre-booked minibus transfer from Avignon TGV or Marseille, staged around two or three arrival windows rather than individual pickups. The regional bus runs only twice daily and is not realistic for guests with luggage.

When to Hold Your Retreat at Journeys of Bliss

April to mid-June is the strongest window for most retreat formats. Average highs climb from about 16C in April to 20C in May and 26C in June, nights are cool, and the countryside is green before the summer burn-off. The region is quiet compared with July.

Late June to mid-July is lavender season. The lower plateaux around Valensole peak in the first week of July, while the higher Pays de Sault, about 45 minutes away at over 800 m, blooms later and typically holds colour into early August. If lavender is part of your programme’s appeal, book Sault excursions for mid-July rather than late June.

July and August bring average highs of 28C and very little rain. This suits pool-centred, slow-paced retreats, but outdoor movement sessions realistically move to early morning and after 18:00. August is peak French holiday season, so village restaurants, markets and roads are busier.

September is arguably the best-kept secret, with highs around 23C, warm water in the pool and the grape harvest underway. October still averages 18C but is the wettest stretch of autumn, which makes an indoor-capable programme important. November to March is cold and quiet, with highs of 8 to 13C and overnight lows near freezing in January and February, so winter retreats need to be built around the heated indoor shala rather than the garden.

The mistral deserves its own line in your planning. This dry northerly wind funnels down the Rhone valley, is most frequent in winter and spring, and is strongest in the transition between the two. Sustained speeds around 50 km/h are normal and gusts can exceed 90 km/h. Episodes last anywhere from a day to over a week and usually calm at night. It clears the sky and drops the humidity, which is pleasant, but it will cancel an outdoor mat session and make a terrace dinner unworkable, so keep an indoor fallback for every outdoor slot between February and May.

The Setting

Malaucene is a working Provencal village of roughly 2,700 people on the northern side of Mont Ventoux, which rises to 1,909 m and dominates every view from the valley. This matters for a retreat in three ways. The landscape does real work: a group that arrives frazzled settles faster somewhere with a mountain on the horizon and no through traffic. The village is a five to ten minute walk away, so guests have a cafe, a bakery and a pharmacy without needing a car. And the area is genuinely rural rather than resort-like, which keeps the sound environment quiet for meditation and sleep.

The 9,000 m2 of private grounds give a group of 22 enough separation to spread out between sessions. Two separate buildings also allow you to split a group, for example teachers in the main house and participants in the shala building, or to run a quiet wing.

What Your Group Can Do Nearby

Hike or cycle the legendary Mont Ventoux, whose summit road climbs 21 km directly from Malaucene. Discover the vineyards, lavender fields and forests of Provence, explore the many hiking trails starting directly from the village, or rent road bikes and e-bikes for world-class cycling routes. On the property there is petanque and the pool.

Stroll through Malaucene, ten minutes away on foot, and visit the picturesque villages of Vaison-la-Romaine, Gigondas, Seguret and Crillon-le-Brave. The local Provencal markets are filled with fresh produce, artisan products and regional delicacies, with Vaison-la-Romaine on Tuesday mornings and Malaucene on Wednesday.

For culture, visit the ancient Roman ruins and amphitheatre of Vaison-la-Romaine, the historic city of Avignon and the Palais des Papes, and the wineries of the renowned Rhone Valley. The Gorges de la Nesque and the lavender plateau at Sault are about 45 minutes away and combine into one loop. Massages and wellness treatments can be booked nearby.

Who Journeys of Bliss Works Best For

It works well for yoga, pilates and movement retreats that need a dedicated, properly sized practice room rather than a converted lounge; for teacher trainings and immersions, where the dormitory and twin-heavy room mix keeps the per-person price workable; for groups of roughly 12 to 22 who want exclusive use of a whole estate; for organisers who want flexibility on catering, since a chef can be hired, the kitchen is open for self-catering and the village has restaurants; and for spring and autumn programmes that mix indoor practice with walking, wine and market culture.

It works less well for groups that need every guest in a private single or double, since with 9 bedrooms for 22 people the model is shared occupancy and a six-bed dormitory forms part of the capacity; for retreats requiring more than 22 beds unless the separate guest house is available; for short weekend formats, given the four-night minimum; and for programmes built entirely around outdoor sessions in late winter or spring, when the mistral can remove that option for days at a time.
