Most retreat leaders looking at Morocco end up choosing between two compromises: a riad in Marrakech with no room to practise, or a surf camp with beds but no privacy. Villa Mandala sits outside that choice. It is a nine-bedroom villa on the beach at Aourir, taken by one group at a time, with a rooftop shala built for practice and a kitchen that feeds everyone three times a day.

Twenty-one guests, seven nights, arrival on a Saturday. The whole house is yours for the week.

The Destination

Why Aourir, Why Taghazout Bay

Aourir sits on the coast road between Agadir and Taghazout, on a stretch of Atlantic shoreline that has become Morocco's yoga and surf corridor. Guests land at Agadir–Al Massira (AGA) and are collected by a shuttle that is included in the stay, so nobody has to arrange transfers, negotiate taxis or arrive alone at night.

Taghazout, with its cafés, surf schools and long sandy beaches, is ten minutes away. The beach at Aourir is at the foot of the property. Guests can walk out to the sand in the morning and be back for practice, which removes the single biggest logistical headache of a coastal retreat: moving a group between the house and the water.

Morocco also solves the calendar problem. The climate on this coast works from autumn through spring, which is exactly when European organisers struggle to find warm, affordable venues within a short flight.

Nine Bedrooms Above the Atlantic

Villa Mandala is booked as an entire retreat centre, not room by room. Twelve rooms in total, nine of them bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, arranged around communal spaces that a group can spread into: a sitting room with a fireplace, a dining area, an outdoor terrace and a swimming pool.

Because the villa is exclusive-use, there are no other guests, no shared breakfast room and no strangers walking through a session. That matters more than square metres. Groups settle faster, participants talk more openly, and leaders spend the week teaching instead of managing a venue.

The Rooms

Twenty-Seven Beds, Two Free Leader Rooms

The nine bedrooms hold twenty-seven single beds, in configurations of four, three and two. That flexibility is deliberate: a retreat can be sold as shared twin rooms, as a mix of shared and private, or at full capacity of twenty-one guests, without the venue changing.

Two rooms are given to the retreat leaders at no charge. For a team of two, that is a full week of accommodation removed from the cost base before a single ticket is sold.

Rooms face the ocean or the garden, with tiled floors, Moroccan textiles and windows that open to the sound of the Atlantic. Check-in is at 4pm and check-out at 11am.

The Practice Space

A Rooftop Shala Facing the Ocean

The shala sits on the roof, under a beamed ceiling, with glass along the ocean side. It is a dedicated practice space rather than a cleared living room, which means classes can be left set up between sessions and the schedule is not built around moving furniture.

Mats, blocks and straps are provided and included in the rate, so leaders travel with their playlist and their sequence, not with equipment. The space suits yoga, meditation, breathwork, workshops and circle work, and the light changes across the day from flat morning white to the low gold of an Atlantic sunset.

The Table

Three Vegetarian Meals a Day, Cooked On Site

Catering is handled by the villa's own chef and included in the per-guest rate: breakfast, a packed lunch and dinner, all vegetarian, with a communal dinner to open the week. Dietary requirements are handled in the kitchen rather than passed back to the organiser.

For a retreat leader, this is the line item that usually causes the most work and the most risk. Here the food is part of the price, which makes a ticket easy to build and easy to explain to participants.

Surfing, Golf, Horses and Ice Baths

Taghazout Bay is one of the most reliable surf regions in the Atlantic, and beginner lessons are available minutes from the door. Surf lessons and board rental are arranged locally and are not included in the villa rate, which keeps the base price clean and lets each group decide how much to add.

Golf courses, horse riding and an ice bath on site give a retreat its optional afternoons. Excursions, including trips inland and along the coast, can be organised separately.
